Stephanie C. Bairey
Steph was born on Thursday, May 18, 1970 in Medford, Oregon. The Kent State shootings were the top news story of the month, and the Vietnam war was being fought. At the Oscars, the Best Movie was Patton, Best Actor was George C. Scott, and Best Actress was Glenda Jackson. Richard Nixon was President and Spiro T. Agnew was VP. A house cost $26,400, the average yearly wage was $9,867, and in the World Series that year, Baltimore beat Cincinnati.
Steph was the oldest child in her family, being followed soon after by Andrea and Benjamin. Her father, Jerry, supported the family as Assistant Manager of a gas station, and her mother, Judi, worked in a doctor's office, and the family moved to Central Point, Oregon. As a child, Stephanie liked cats and Star Trek, and went International Folkdancing with her mom.
When she was 11, Steph moved with her family, sans Dad, to Portland, Oregon, where life was uneventful for many years. About this time, she found out that she has congenital anosmia, a total absence of the sense of smell. By the time she was 15, she was swimming regularly at the pool at which Pete was a lifeguard, though neither noticed each other much at the time.
After High School, Steph started attending Portland State University, but soon left to take a job at a resort in Death Valley, California. Life in the desert grew stale quickly though, and in six months she went back to Portland, to again take up part-time college classes and work. Her jobs included pizza chef, photo lab manager, and legal secretary, but in the next few years she obtained better jobs, based on her computer skills. After getting her degree, she worked at Intel as Technical Web Designer Intel.
In May 2003, Peter and Steph moved to the big island of Hawaii, and are completely enjoying their new home in paradise.
Steph now does web design with her company, Baireynet Web Design. In her spare time, she cares for the house full of pets and plants, sings a lot, studies 20th century film history, and runs Practical Pet Care, a web site that combines Steph's love of animals and web design.
